Which Ism Is It? Do the art styles confuse you? Do you know the difference between Modernism and Mannerism? What makes something either Romanticism or Realism? We will use Bob Raczka’s delightful children’s’ book Name That Style: All About Isms in Art as a guide. This lecture course is for anyone interested in learning about art styles.

Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: private & semi-private art lessons
• Description: Artist and educator, Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in addition to her group classes each quarter. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact her directly for more information or to sign up for private art lessons.
• Ages: 6 years to adult
• Class Term: March 30 to May 22, 2015
• Day & Time: by appointment ONLY!
• Class fee: Private -> $80.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies; Semi-Private -> $60.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies per student (* Supply fee depends on media and unit chosen.)

• Type of class: writing - folk lore /art class
• Description: This new gifted enrichment class will combine folk lore, mythology, art, and creative writing. The Tall Tales course is for creatively and artistically gifted students. Students will study traditional legends, local myths, and folklore, then write and illustrate their own tall tale. The instructor has a M.Ed. in Gifted Studies and specializes in small group instruction. Skill level: Intermediate/Advanced. This class is best suited for students ready for a writing challenge!

• Dates: March 30 to May 18, 2015
• Day & Time: Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm
• Class fee: $95.00 (includes supplies)

• Description: Learn how to draw fantastic cartoons using basic geometric shapes. Then we will up the ante by learning about special effects, emotions, and costumes. By the end of the quarter, each student will have created their own comic strip. Skill level: Basic. No prior experience required. Small group instruction. Students taking this class will learn some basic/intermediate drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own characters and unique style of drawing. Skill level: Intermediate. Prior drawing experience preferred. Small group instruction.

Illustration Geeks
• Type of class: anime-comics fan club
• Description: Get with the geeks! We will be back in force almost every week at the Dempsey again in the spring. The Illustration Geeks are kids ages 10 - 17, who are totally into fandom. While the focus is mostly on anime/manga and comics/comic books, all facets of fandom are celebrated here, including gaming and book crazes. There will be guest speakers, workshops, special events, and more.

• Day & Time: Most Fridays, April 3 to May 22, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
• Class fee: $5.00 club fees (there will be a small charge for special events)
