How to Register for Private Art Lessons

Hello all.  It's that time again to register for Private and Semi-private art lessons for Winter 2020.  I am down at my parents' house for Christmas.  New change going forward is that I will have a car, and therefore be looking for a part-time job; My time will be more limited so if you're interested in lessons please send me your availability as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT CHANGE:

If you are interested instead of replying to this email, please send me a NEW EMAIL with your or your child's name as the SUBJECT TITLE.  Gmail has made some changes, and emails kept getting lost or buried in my box when many, many people just replied to my email.  This change will help me stay better organized, and not lose track of anyone.

How to sign up:

1. Interested? - Send me an email with your name or your child's name (Whomever is taking the lessons) as the subject line.  Please don't just respond to this message.
2. Important Info - Within the email please list your name, child's name (if applicable), whether you're interested in private or semi-private lessons, dates/times you're available, what units and or media you're interested in, ages, etc.   Please also include a phone number so I can contact you. 
3. Priority - Priority is given to my long term students.  They will get first pick of my times, and availability based on how long they've been attending.  Then I will add new students to my schedule.
4. Semi-private Lessons -  I have had siblings, a parent, even a grandmother attend with a child; it's really up to you!  Both students must want to work on the same unit, using the same or similar materials, and get along.  Some students do better privately, and I generally don't take semi-private students under 8; usually I only take 6-7 years old privately.  Please note:  I cannot find a person for you or your child to have semi-private lessons with; I can always send out an interest email, but it is extremely difficult to find someone who has the same interests, availability, etc.
5. Registration - Once we have set a schedule, please register for lessons at the Harris Center before classes begin.  I can also send you a copy of the waiver via email.

• Description: They’re fierce, and full of attitude. Come draw some terrific tiny cartoons with Miss Laurie! We will be drawing using an exaggerated style, and each child will be encouraged to develop his/her own characters. Skill Level, Basic: No prior experience required. Small group instruction. All supplies are included.

• Description: Manga is a Japanese style of comics; one popular aspect of manga is the chibis which are tiny, and often cute. Full of personality, style, and
pizzazz we will learn how to draw chibi creatures, popularly known as “pocket monsters”. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime/manga characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level, Beginner/Intermediate: No prior experience required. Small group
instruction. All supplies are included.

• Type of class: painting/mixed media
• Description: Expressionism is exciting paintings full of emotions. In this class, students will explore the artwork of six famous expressionists, and then use their works as a springboard to explore art and creativity. Each artist will have
an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style, and create their own unique work or art. Skill Level, Beginner/Intermediate: No prior experience required. Small group instruction. All supplies are included.

• Description: Learn how to draw the delightfully devious characters of Japanese comics! We will be covering mysterious monsters including: vampires, zombies, werewolves and witches. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own cool characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate/Advanced: Prior drawing experience preferred. Small group instruction. All supplies are included.

Adult Watercolor Studio I
• Type of class: painting
• Description: Discover the wonderful world of watercolors! Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. We will have an introduction to basic color theory, discuss brush strokes, washes and more. Learn how to paint using watercolors’ plus some fun tips and tricks. Skill Level: Basic/Intermediate: No prior experience needed. Contact the instructor for supply list.

Adult Watercolor Studio II

• Description: Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. (Taking Adult Watercolor Studio I is a prerequisite for taking this course.) In this class, we have a more in depth examination of color theory, and learn intermediate watercolor techniques. We will also be covering perspective, composition and texture.
