This year I'm adding some exciting new additions. First up due to increased requests, I'm going to start offering Gifted Enrichment classes, where we combine art and other topics to stretch your gifted students minds. Next, I will start offering 50+ art classes at the Harris Center. You can register for these classes by going by or calling the Harris Center.

Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: private & semi-private art lessons
• Description: Artist and educator, Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in addition to her group classes each quarter. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact her directly for more information or to sign up for private art lessons.
• Ages: 6 years to adult
• Class Term: September 2 to October 31, 2014
• Day & Time: by appointment ONLY!
• Class fee: Private -> $80.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies; Semi-Private -> $60.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies per student

Gifted Enrichment: Smart but Scattered
• Type of class: gifted enrichment
• Description: Do you have a gifted or talented child that struggles with everyday tasks like finishing homework, putting away toys, or following instructions at school? Your child might also have trouble coping with disappointment or managing anger. We will employ strategies and techniques from the Smart but Scattered: "Executive Skills" Approach. Art projects and other activities will also be included. The instructor has a M.Ed. in Gifted Studies.
• Ages: 8 - 12 years old
• Dates: September 8 to October 27, 2014 (8 weeks)
• Day & Time: Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm
• Class fee: $95.00 (includes supplies)

Kids Can Paint: Intermediate Watercolors
• Type of class: painting
• Description: Learn how to take the next step to make your paintings shine. We will be covering perspective, composition and texture. We will also discuss intermediate color theory and brushstrokes. Skill Level, Intermediate: Student needs prior painting experience. Small group instruction. All supplies will be included. For more information, please contact the instructor.

Anime Drawing: Girl Power
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Whether they’re battling monsters, practicing magic, playing sports or just hanging around, these girls take life in stride and have style all their own. Some of the anime girls that we will cover include: cat girls, magical girls, school girls, fighters, princesses, cosplay, Lolita and Goth fashion and more. Students taking this class will learn some basic drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate: Prior drawing experience preferred. Small group instruction.
• Ages: 10-15 years old
• Dates: September 5 to October 31, 2014 (8 weeks); NO CLASS: 09/19
• Day & Time: Fridays from 4:30 to 600 p.m.
• Class fee: $85.00 (includes supplies)

Elements of Design through Drawing
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Students will be introduced to the elements and principles of design using artwork from throughout history. The elements of design include: rhythm, texture, balance, movement, and more. They will then apply that knowledge to make graphite pencil drawings. Skill Level: Basic: No prior experience needed. Small group instruction.
• Ages: 50 +
• Dates: September 10 to October 15, 2014 (6 weeks)
• Day & Time: Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm
• Location: Harris Center
• Class fee: $75.00 (includes supplies)

~ FAN CLUB ~
Illustration Geeks
• Type of class: anime-comics fan club
• Description: Get with the Geeks! We will be back in force almost every week at the Dempsey again in the Fall. The Illustration Geeks are kids 8 to 17, who are totally into fandom. While the focus is mostly on anime/manga and comics/comic books, all facets of fandom are celebrated here. There will be guest speakers, workshops, special events and more. While most things will be free; there will be a small charge for some special events.
• Ages: 8 – 17 years old
• Day & Time: Friday, September 5, 2014 to October 31, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm; NO IG Meeting on: 9/19 & 10/17.
• Class fee: Free (there will be a small charge for special events)

Important Information:  You MUST contact me first!  If you just register that does NOT guarantee you a spot!  Remember that returning students will have first priority; students who have been with me the longest get placed first. Then if I have any room I will place other returning students and new students.  I have already been fielding a lot of calls from new people who are interested in private & semi-private lessons, so if you are interested let me know as soon as you can! You can either call or e-mail me.

• How many weeks you would like to sign up for. I recommend 6-8 weeks.
• The top 3 times and days that work best for you. (I can’t guarantee that you will get in on of your first choices.
•  What medium & unit you (or your child) is interested in.

 Just a reminder that not only do I have to operate within your schedule, I do have other commitments and a part-time tutoring job, and we also have to work with the Dempsey’s calendar and available space.
