~ PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS ~
Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: fine art
• Description: Artist and educator Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in the fine arts including watercolors, drawing, mixed media and much more. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact the instructor directly for more information or to sign up.
• Ages: 6 years to adult
• Class Term: 1/9 – 3/1
• Day & Time: by appointment ONLY!
• Class fee: Private -> $90.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies; Semi-Private -> $66.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies per student (*Supply fee depends on media and unit chosen.)

• Description: Is your child struggling with grammar, writing or reading comprehension? Work one-on-one with a former English teacher, and a certified Reading Specialist. Kids Can Draw: Pets
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Everyone loves their pet! Learn to draw animals using shapes and proportion. We will cover: cats, dogs, guinea pigs, parakeets, mice and more. All supplies will be included. Skill level, beginner/intermediate: no prior experience required.
• Ages: 8 to 12
• Class Term: 1/10 – 2/21
• Day & Time: Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5 p.m.

Kids Can Paint: Pop Art
• Type of class: painting/mixed-media
• Description: Pop Art is an eye-opening celebration of pop culture. In this class, students will explore the artwork of six famous pop artists, and then use their works as a springboard to explore art and creativity. Each artist will have an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style and create their own unique work of art. All supplies will be included. Skill level, beginner/intermediate: no prior experience required.

• Class Term: 1/11 – 2/22
• Day & Time: Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5 p.m.

~ TEENS, 12 to 18 ~
Teens Can Draw: Superheroes
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Smash! Bash! Zonk! Want to draw awesome heroes and vexing villains? We will explore several styles of drawing superheroes including: traditional, streamlined and American manga. Students taking this class will learn some basic/intermediate drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Skilled students will be encouraged to develop his or her own characters and unique style of drawing. Skill level, intermediate: prior drawing experience preferred. Small classroom instruction. Illustration Geeks Fan Club
• Type of class: meet up/club
• Description: The Illustration Geeks Fan Club are teens, who are into fandom, gaming, anime and/or comics, and want to hang out with like-minded fans. Events for this term include: movie nights with snacks on 1/20 and 2/3, and a costume party on 2/17.
• Ages: 12 to 17 (18 if still in high school)
• Class Term: 1/20, 2/3, 2/17
• Day & Time: Fridays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
• Class fee: $5.00


~ ADULTS ~
Adult Pastel Studio
• Type of class: pastel
• Description: Discover the wonderful world of art. Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. You can choose to focus on chalk or oil pastels. We will have an introduction to basic color theory, along with some fun tips and tricks. Your choice of afternoon or evening sessions. Everyone will provide their own supplies after the first class. IG Movie Night

The Illustration Geeks fan club will be having a movie night on September 30 from 6-8 pm at the Jan Dempsey. Anyone 10 and up is invited to attend providing you can behave.

EVERYONE will have to a SIGNED Auburn Recreational Center waiver listing the IG fan club (as the class/event). Your parent MUST sign the form.

AGENDA: We will be watching a Studio Ghibli movie.  The attendees will vote on which movie we will watch.  If you have any concerns over ratings or content, please advise me before the meeting.  (Most Studio Ghibli movies are rated PG 13 or less; a few have violence/disturbing images.)

• Description: Learn how to draw fantastic beings and incredible creatures in this class. Our awesome cast includes orcs, sprites, goblins, werewolves and more! We will also cover accessories, armor and weapons. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own fantasy characters and unique style of drawing. "Artistic Expressions" Student Art Exhibition's Open House

Just a reminder that my Open House is THIS TUESDAY!!

Please join my students and I to celebrate our achievements this term.  I have really gotten some high quality work, and have once again gotten such sweet students.  I can't believe how blessed I am.  This is my first every Open House, which we are having because the AACT is presenting "Peter Pan" this week, so I hope you will come out to support my students.

I will be also be featuring some new artwork that I've never shown before (which will be for sale), and you can win one piece as a door prize.  You do have to come on Tuesday to enter (one entry per family), but you do not have to be present to win.  I will also have cookies, free comic books, and freebies from my bank, so everyone will be able to go home with some swag.

• Description: This new writing course is the third in a series, which combines art and creative writing. Students will write and illustrate their own fabulous stories. Each student can write and illustrate their work in a traditional manner or in a comic book format. The instructor has a M. Ed in Gifted Studies and specializes in small group instruction. Skill level, beginner/intermediate: No prior experience required.

ANIME DRAWING: CHIBI MANGA
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Manga is a Japanese style of comics and one popular aspect of manga are the chibis. Chibis are the super-popular, cute, tiny people of manga. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime/manga characters, and unique style of drawing. Skill level, beginner/intermediate: no prior experience required. Small group instruction.

ANIME DRAWING: FANTASY MANGA
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Manga is a Japanese style of comics and there are many types of manga including “fantasy” manga. Fantasy manga is filled with magical faeries, beautiful princesses, futuristic knights, awesome heroes, magical weapons and so much more! Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime characters and unique style of drawing. Skill level, intermediate: student needs prior drawing experience.

ILLUSTRATION GEEKS FAN CLUB
• Type of class: club/drawing and writing
• Description: The Illustration Geeks are back in action! The first day of class, we will vote on what we will do for the spring quarter.
• Ages: 12 -17 years old (18 if still in high school)
• Dates: 3/25 – 4/22
• Day & Time: Friday 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, & 4/22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

ADULT DRAWING STUDIO
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Discover the wonderful world of art. Explore art in a small group setting with other artists. We will cover the basics of drawing and shading with graphite pencils. Already familiar with graphite? Learn how to sharpen your skills. Please contact the instructor for a supply list. Skill level: basic/ intermediate: No prior experience needed.

"The Wind Rises" Showing FREE in Auburn, AL

If you've always wanted why I rave about Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, go and see for yourselves.  Tomorrow the Jule Collins Museum of Fine Art is having a FREE showing of his newest film "The Wind Rises".  

Online it says it was on December 17, but they are showing it again &/or for the first time.  Who cares?!  It's Miyazaki, it's FREE, and it's showing here in Auburn.

~ PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE ART LESSONS ~
Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: private & semi-private art lessons
• Description: Artist and educator, Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in addition to her group classes each quarter. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact her directly for more information or to sign up for private art lessons.

KIDS CAN PAINT: IMPRESSIONISM
• Type of class: painting/mixed-media
• Description: Impressionism is lively paintings that capture a fleeting moment in time. In this class students will explore the artwork of six famous artists: Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Mary Cassatt. Then we will use these artists and their works as a springboard to explore art and creativity. Each artist will have an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style. All supplies will be included. Skill Level, Beginner/Intermediate: No prior experience required.

ANIME DRAWING: MANGA PEOPLE
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Manga is a Japanese style of comics. In this class we will learn how to draw rocking boys and cool girls. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime/manga characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate: Student needs prior drawing experience. Small group instruction. All supplies are included.

ILLUSTRATION GEEKS FAN CLUB
• Type of class: club/drawing and writing
• Description: The Illustration Geeks are back in action! This term everyone will be making their own comic book or manga. Join us on the second and fourth Fridays from 6-8 p.m. to participate in all the fun. A limited number of discounts /scholarships will be available.
• Ages: 12 -17 years old (18 if still in high school)
• Dates: 1/15 – 3/11
• Day & Time: 2nd & 4th Fridays from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

~ ADULTS ~
ADULT ACRYLIC STUDIO
• Type of class: acrylic/mixed-media
• Description: explore the wonderful world of acrylics. In Session 1 we will learn the basics of acrylics, plus an introduction to basic color theory, along with some fun tips and tricks. While in Session 2, we will combine acrylics with other media, and work on some more advanced techniques. You must attend Session 1 in order to attend Session 2. Skill Level: Basic: No prior experience needed. Small group instruction. Includes all supplies; please bring an apron or smock.

• Dates: Session I 1/13-2/10; Session II 2/17-3/9
• Day & Time: Wednesdays from 1;00 to 3:00 pm
