~ CLASSES FOR FALL 2016 ~

New classes that I’m offering this quarter include: Private Reading & Writing Instruction.
Classes are held at: The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) (334) 501-2963 unless otherwise noted!
You MUST register by calling or going by: The Harris Center (334) 501-2930; hours: M-F 8 to 5 pm
Registration Dates: August 1 - August 31, 2016
Class Term: September 2 - November 4, 2016

~ PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS ~
Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: fine art
• Description: Artist and educator Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in the fine arts including watercolors, drawing, mixed media and much more. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact the instructor directly for more information or to sign up.
• Ages: 6 years to adult
• Class Term: 9/12 - 11/4
• Day & Time: by appointment ONLY!
• Class fee: Private -> $90.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies; Semi-Private -> $66.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies per student (*Supply fee depends on media and unit chosen.)

Private Reading & Writing Instruction
• Type of class: tutoring/private instruction
• Description: Is your child struggling with grammar, writing or reading comprehension? Work one-on-one with a former English teacher, and a certified Reading Specialist. Content will be individualized to meet your child’s needs. These lessons are available by appointment only, and spaces are limited! Please contact the instructor directly for more information, or to sign up for private reading & writing lessons.
• Ages: 8 to 18
• Class Term: 9/12 - 11/4
• Day & Time: by appointment ONLY!
• Class fee: Private -> $90.00 for lessons (6, 1 hour sessions) plus $20.00 for supplies (*Supply fee depends on unit chosen.)

~ KIDS, 8 to 12 ~
Kids Can Draw: People
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Learn how to draw people using simple shapes. We will cover portraits and basic anatomy. All supplies will be included. Skill level: Beginner/ Intermediate (No prior experience required.)
• Ages: 8 to 12
• Class Term: 9/13 – 11/1
• Day & Time: Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
• Class fee: $85.00


Kids Can Paint: Expressionism
• Type of class: painting/mixed-media
• Description: Expressionism is exciting paintings full of emotions. In this class, students will explore the artwork of six famous expressionists, and then use their works as a springboard to explore art and creativity. Each artist will have an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style and create their own unique work of art. All supplies will be included. Skill level, Beginner/Intermediate (No prior experience required).
• Ages: 8 to 12
• Class Term: 9/14 – 11/2
• Day & Time: Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
• Class fee: $110.00

~ TEENS, 12 to 18 ~
Teens Can Draw: Fantasy Characters
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Learn how to draw fantastic beings and incredible creatures in this class. Our awesome cast includes orcs, sprites, goblins, werewolves and more! We will also cover accessories, armor and weapons. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own fantasy characters and unique style of drawing. Skill level, Intermediate (Student needs prior drawing experience.) Small group instruction. (All supplies are included.) For more information, please contact the instructor

• Class Term: 9/16 – 11/4
• Day & Time: Fridays, 4:15 – 5:45 p.m

Illustration Geeks Fan Club
• Type of class: meet up/club
• Description: The Illustration Geeks Fan Club are teens who are into anime and comics and want to hang out with like-minded fans. Events for this term are: September 30 & November 4 are movie nights with snacks, while October 21 will be a costume party
• Ages: 12 to 17 (18 if still in high school)
• Class Term: 9/30, 10/21, 11/4
• Day & Time: Fridays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

• Class fee: $10.00


~ ADULTS ~
Adult Painting Studio
• Type of class: painting/mixed-media
• Description: Discover the wonderful world of art. Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. You can choose to focus on acrylics or watercolors. We will have an introduction to basic color theory, along with some fun tips and tricks. Everyone will provide their own supplies after the first class; please contact the instructor for a supply list. Skill Level: Basic/ Intermediate (No prior experience needed). • Class Term: 9/14 – 11/2
• Day & Time: Wednesdays, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m

IG fan club - Movie Night

WHAT: Illustration Geeks Club Meeting
WHEN: Friday, August 5 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm
WHERE: Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, Studio 1
WHO: kids 10+, IG members, friends & potential members
BRING: your own water bottle/drink; parent to fill out IG waivers and AU Rec Dept waivers
NEEDED ITEMS: A signed Auburn Rec Dept Summer 2016 waiver

AGENDA: 
By popular request, we are watching Studio Ghibli's latest movie, "When Marnie Was There". This movie was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who also directed "The Secret World of Arrietty". We will be discussing plans for the Fall term.

Looking for someone to donate snacks to the club meeting. Please let Miss Laurie know if you'd like to send something for everyone to enjoy
