First up due to increased requests, I’m going to start offering Gifted Enrichment classes, where we combine art and other topics to stretch your gifted students minds. Private & Semi-Private Art Lessons
• Type of class: private & semi-private art lessons
• Description: Artist and educator, Laurie Brenden offers private and semi-private art lessons in addition to her group classes each quarter. A private lesson is for one student. Semi-private lessons are for two students; the students can be siblings, family members, friends, etc. These lessons are available by appointment only and spaces are limited! Please contact her directly for more information or to sign up for private art lessons.

Gifted Enrichment: Smart but Scattered
• Type of class: gifted enrichment
• Description: Do you have a gifted or talented child that struggles with everyday tasks like finishing homework, putting away toys, or following instructions at school? Your child might also have trouble coping with disappointment or managing anger. We will employ strategies and techniques from the Smart but Scattered: “Executive Skills” Approach. Art projects and other activities will also be included. The instructor has a M.Ed. in Gifted Studies. 
• Ages: 8 - 12 years old
• Dates: September 8 to October 27, 2014 (8 weeks)
• Day & Time: Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm
• Class fee: $95.00 (includes supplies)

Kids Can Paint: Intermediate Watercolors
• Type of class: painting
• Description: Learn how to take the next step to make your paintings shine. We will be covering perspective, composition and texture. We will also discuss intermediate color theory and brushstrokes. Skill Level, Intermediate: Student needs prior painting experience. Small group instruction. All supplies will be included. For more information, please contact the instructor.

Anime Drawing: Girl Power
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Whether they’re battling monsters, practicing magic, playing sports or just hanging around, these girls take life in stride and have style all their own. Some of the anime girls that we will cover include: cat girls, magical girls, school girls, fighters, princesses, cosplay, Lolita and Goth fashion and more. Students taking this class will learn some basic drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate: Prior drawing experience preferred. Small group instruction. 
• Ages: 10-15 years old
• Dates: September 5 to October 31, 2014 (8 weeks); NO CLASS: 09/19
• Day & Time: Fridays from 4:30 to 600 p.m.

Elements of Design through Drawing
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Students will be introduced to the elements and principles of design using artwork from throughout history. The elements of design include: rhythm, texture, balance, movement, and more. They will then apply that knowledge to make graphite pencil drawings. Skill Level: Basic: No prior experience needed. Small group instruction. 
• Ages: 50 +
• Dates: September 10 to October 15, 2014 (6 weeks) 
• Day & Time: Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm
• Location: Harris Center
• Class fee: $75.00 (includes supplies)

~ FAN CLUB ~
Illustration Geeks
• Type of class: anime-comics fan club
• Description: Get with the Geeks! We will be back in force almost every week at the Dempsey again in the Fall. The Illustration Geeks are kids 8 to 17, who are totally into fandom. While the focus is mostly on anime/manga and comics/comic books, all facets of fandom are celebrated here. There will be guest speakers, workshops, special events and more. While most things will be free; there will be a small charge for some special events. 
• Ages: 8 – 17 years old
• Day & Time: Friday, August 29 to October 31, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm; NO IG Meeting on: 9/19 & 10/17.

Summer 2014 Private and Semi-Private Art Lessons

Registration is now open! If you are interested in taking Private Art Lessons with me during the Summer term, please let me know ASAP! Remember that returning students will have first priority; students who have been with me the longest get placed first. Then if I have any room I will place other returning students and new students.

I have already been fielding a lot of calls from new people who are interested in private & semi-private lessons, so if you are interested let me know as soon as you can! You can either call or e-mail me.

I will NOT be starting ANY private or semi-private lessons until the first week of June.  There will be days and times I am NOT available due to scheduling conflicts and availability.

If you would like to register for the Summer term I will need the following information:

o When you would like to start.

o When you would like to come.  During the summer the schedule is more flexible and some people come for a five days in a row, or three days a week, or whatever works best for you.

o The top 3 times and days that work best for you. (I can’t guarantee that you will get in on of your first choices.)

o What medium & unit you (or your child) is interested in.

o Remember during the summer there are a lot of camps and special events going on at the JDCAC, so times and spots go quickly!

Cost:

Private lessons run $13.00 per hour plus supplies.  Semi-private lessons run $10.00 per hour per student.  Supplies for Private and Semi private lessons run between $15.00 to $30.00 per student (depending on the unit and media).

"Pencils and Paint" Gallery Show

Brenden Designs is proud to announce its Spring 2014 Gallery Show, “Pencils and Paint”.

This gallery show features the art work of sixteen artists, ranging ages 7 to adult from three group classes, and current private/semi-private students. The show will open Monday, May 19th at 3 pm and run until May 23rd at 2 pm.

Join us for an Opening Celebration on Monday, May 19th from 5:30 until 7 pm in Studio Two. Display space courtesy of Margaret Gluhman and the Auburn Arts Association.

To view the show, go to the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center in Auburn, Alabama. Our show will be featured in Studio Two. The Dempsey will be open Monday through Friday of next week from 8 am to 9 pm, except on Tuesday when they will close at 5 pm.

There will be a guest book for comments, flyers of upcoming classes, and show brochures available. Come out, and support these mostly young, and young at heart artists!

• Description: Manga is a Japanese style of comics.  One popular aspect of manga are the chibis.  Chibis are the super-popular, cute, tiny people of manga.  Not only will we discuss how to turn any animated character into a chibi, but also how to make chibi-style monsters!   Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime/manga characters and unique style of drawing.  Skill Level, Intermediate:  Student needs prior drawing experience. (Taking the Basic Drawing course is a prerequisite if the student has never taken a drawing class.)  Small group instruction. All supplies are included. • Description: Need a little more action in your life?  Learn how to draw awe-inspiring heroes and audacious villains including: knights, pirates, ninjas, samurais and more.  Students will be encouraged to develop their own characters and style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate:  Student needs prior drawing experience. (Taking the Basic Drawing course is a prerequisite if the student has never taken a drawing class.)  Small group instruction.  All supplies are included.

• Dates: Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 6, 2014 (5 days)

• Time: 3:30 to 5:00 pm

Fantasy Drawing: Supernatural Creatures

• Type of class: drawing

• Ages: 10 - 15

• Description: What would your heroes & villains be without some incredible creatures in their lives? Learn how to draw zombies, werewolves, dragons, gargoyles, and more. Students will be encouraged to develop their own characters and style of drawing. Skill Level, Intermediate:  Student needs prior drawing experience. (Taking the Basic Drawing course is a prerequisite if the student has never taken a drawing class.)  Small group instruction.  All supplies are included.  Summer special: Sign up for both Fantasy Drawing classes & save $10.00 off the second class!

Midnight Madness

• Type of class: drawing

• Ages: 12 - 17

• Description: By request!  Learn how to draw even more creepy and dark anime creatures. We will be covering mysterious monsters including: vampires, zombies, werewolves and witches.  Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own cool characters and unique style of drawing.  Skill Level, Intermediate:  Student needs prior drawing experience. Small group instruction.  Includes all supplies.  Summer special: Sign up for both Madness classes & save $10.00 off the second class!

Wonderland Madness

• Description:  By request!  Learn how to draw the fanciful people and creatures that inhabit Wonderland.  We will be covering wistful characters including: elves, mermaids, faeries and angels. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own cool characters and unique style of drawing.  Skill Level, Intermediate:  Student needs prior drawing experience. "Living in an Art Day Dream"

Brenden Designs is pleased to present “Living in an Art Day Dream”.

 

This gallery show features the art work of nineteen artists, ranging ages 6 to adult from three group classes, and current private/semi-private students.  The show will have a soft opening on Monday March 17th at 3 pm, and will open officially on Tuesday March 18th.  The show will run until March 21st at 5 pm.

 

Join us for a Gallery Show reception with cookies provided by Margaret Gluhman, and the Auburn Arts Association.
