I’m currently taking reservations for Private and Semi-Private art students for the Spring semester.  Private lessons and semi-private art lessons offer you a flexible schedule where you can study the unit you choose at a pace that works for you. If you are interested please let me know so that we can discuss the details.  Additionally this Summer due to the lack of interest in my group art classes, I will only be offering private and semi-private lessons.

Kids Can Draw: Comic Books
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Learn how to create cosmic comics!  We will be making our own mini comic books in this fun, interactive class.  Students taking this class will learn the basics of drawing comics, plus cool tips and tricks.  Also each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own comic/cartoon characters, and unique style of drawing.  Small group instruction. Skill Level, Basic: No prior experience required. All supplies will be included.

Midnight Monsters
• Type of class: drawing
• Description: Learn how to draw the delightfully devious characters of Japanese comics!  We will be covering mysterious monsters including: vampires, zombies, werewolves and witches.  Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own cool characters and unique style of drawing.  Skill Level, Intermediate/Advanced:  Prior drawing experience preferred.  Small group instruction.  All supplies are included.

Adult Watercolor Studio I
• Type of class: painting
• Description: Discover the wonderful world of watercolors! Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. We will have an introduction to basic color theory, discuss brush strokes, washes and more. Learn how to paint using watercolors’ plus some fun tips and tricks. • Description: Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. (Taking Adult Watercolor Studio I is a prerequisite for taking this course.) In this class, we have a more in depth examination of color theory, and learn intermediate watercolor techniques. We will also be covering perspective, composition and texture. Stanley's Stamps

Let's Help Stanley! Join Miss Laurie for a fun, and free event. Design your own stamp to be included on stage during Auburn Area Community Theatre's production of Flat Stanley, Jr. You can even have your stamp returned to you after the production.


All participants must have a signed waiver on file listing the event, and wear painting clothes. Adults are all also welcome to come, and paint a stamp. To attend you must be a former or current student of Miss Laurie.

• Description: Surrealism is strange and sometimes silly art that explores dreams and the world of imagination! In this class students will explore the artwork of six 

famous artists. They then will use these artists and their works as a springboard to explore art and their own creativity. Each artist will have an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style. Small group instruction. • Description: Pop Art is an eye-opening celebration of pop culture. In this class, students will explore the artwork of six famous pop artists, and then use their works as a springboard to explore art and creativity. Each artist will have an “inspiration” piece based on their style, use of color, etc. However, each student will be encouraged to explore his or her own artistic style and create their own unique work of art. All supplies will be included. Skill level, beginner/intermediate: no prior experience required.

Teens Can Draw: Superheroes

• Type of class: drawing

• Description: Smash! Bash! Zonk! Want to draw awesome heroes and vexing villains? We will explore several styles of drawing superheroes including: traditional, streamlined and American manga. Students taking this class will learn some basic/intermediate drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Skilled students will be encouraged to develop his or her own characters and unique style of drawing. Skill level, intermediate: prior drawing experience preferred. Small classroom instruction. • Description: The Illustration Geeks Fan Club are teens, who are into fandom, gaming, anime and/or comics, and want to hang out with like-minded fans. Events for this term include: movie nights with snacks on 1/20 and 2/3, and a costume party on 2/17.

• Description: Discover the wonderful world of art. Explore art in a small group setting with other adults. You can choose to focus on chalk or oil pastels. Winter Exhibition 2015 - "Art CraZe"

Brenden Designs is proud to announce its Winter 2015 Exhibition, “Art CraZe”.

This gallery show features the art work of twelve young artists and two adult artists, who attended my classes this term. The show will open Monday, March 9th at 3 pm and run until Friday, March 13th, 2015 at 5:45 pm in Studio Two.

To view the exhibition, go to the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center in Auburn, Alabama. The Dempsey will be open Monday through Friday of next week from 8 am to 9 pm.  Please check with a Dempsey staff member to make sure a class is not going on before viewing the exhibition.

Gifted Enrichment: There Be Dragons

•      Type of class: Writing - Mythology/Art class                    

•      Description: This new gifted enrichment class will combine folk lore, mythology, art, and creative writing. The “There Be Dragons course” is for creatively and artistically gifted students. Students will study dragons and related mythology and folklore and then write and illustrate their own myths and folk tales. The instructor has a M.Ed. in Gifted Studies, and specializes in small group instruction.

•      Ages: 8 - 12 years old

•      Dates: January 12 to March 2, 2015 (8 weeks); NO CLASS on January 19^th.

Let’s Focus on Artists of the 1800’s

•      Type of class: mixed-media/painting

•      Description: This new mixed-media class will concentrate on eight famous artists from the 1800’s. Featured artists include: Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Amedeo Modigliani, Diego Rivera, Marcel Duchamp, Marc Chagall, and Chang Daichien. • Type of class: drawing

• Description: Explore the super cute manga genre of Kawaii! These characters are intensely cute, fun to draw, and colorfully graphic. We will even dive the dark side of Kawaii by drawing some creepy and bad to the bone characters. Included topics are lovable anthros, mysterious monsters, gothic, and more. Students taking this class will learn some basic drawing techniques plus cool tips and tricks. Each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own anime characters and unique style of drawing. Skill Level: Intermediate (prior drawing experience preferred.) Small group instruction.

• Description: Students will be introduced to the elements and principles of design using artwork from throughout history. The principles of design include: balance, movement,

pattern, and more. They will then apply that knowledge to make mixed-media pieces of their own. Part two of the series; the first class was Elements of Design through

Drawing. Students can attend this course even if they did NOT participate in part one. Skill Level: Basic: No prior experience needed. Small group instruction.

Illustration Geeks

• Type of class: anime-comics fan club

• Description: Get with the geeks! We will be back in force almost every week at the Dempsey again in the winter. The Illustration Geeks are kids ages 10 - 17, who are totally into fandom. While the focus is mostly on anime/manga and comics/comic books, all facets of fandom are celebrated here. There will be guest speakers, workshops, special events, and more. While most things will be free; there will be a small charge for some special events.
